What Is North Dakota Form ND-1?
Full-year residents use North Dakota Form ND-1 to file their state individual income tax return.
The purpose of Form ND-1 is to calculate how much North Dakota income tax you owe for the year.
If you are a part-year or nonresident with North Dakota-sourced income, you should file Form ND-1NR instead.
North Dakota does not currently offer a short form for individual filers.
Read the Which Form to File
section of the 2024 ND-1 instructions to help determine if you should file ND-1 or ND-1NR.
Who Must File North Dakota Form ND-1?
If you are a full-year North Dakota resident who is required to file a federal income tax return, you generally must file Form ND-1. Nonresident and part-year residents who receive income from a source in North Dakota must file form ND-1NR instead.
Even if you are not required to file a federal tax return, you may benefit from filing a state tax return. For example, if you had North Dakota state tax withheld on your W-2, you could be eligible for a refund.
