Kansas Income Tax Rate 2024 - 2025
Kansas state income tax rate table for the 2024 - 2025 filing season has two income tax brackets with KS tax rates of 5.2% and 5.58% for Single, Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, and Head of Household statuses. The top Kansas tax rate decreased from 5.7% last year to 5.58% for the 2024 income tax year. The number of tax brackets also decreased from three to two brackets.
Kansas income tax rate and tax brackets shown in the table below are based on income earned between January 1, 2024 through December 91, 2024. Outlook for the 2025 Kansas income tax rate is to remain unchanged. A flat tax rate was proposed by the Kansas House last year. Reducing the brackets down to two appears to indicate the state is moving in that direction.

Kansas Tax Brackets 2024 - 2025
Looking at the tax rate and tax brackets shown in the tables above for Kansas, we can see that Kansas collects individual income taxes differently for Single versus Married filing statuses, for example. We can also see the progressive nature of Kansas state income tax rates from the lowest KS tax rate bracket of 5.2% to the highest KS tax rate bracket of 5.58%.
For single taxpayers living and working in the state of Kansas:
- Tax rate of 5.2% on the first $23,000 of taxable income.
- Tax rate of 5.58% on taxable income over $23,000.
For married taxpayers living and working in the state of Kansas:
- Tax rate of 5.2% on the first $46,000 of taxable income.
- Tax rate of 5.58% on taxable income over $46,000.
For the Single, Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, and Head of Household filing statuses, the KS tax rates and the number of tax brackets remain the same. Notice, however, the Kansas income tax brackets for Married Filing Jointly double from $23,000 to $46,000 at the 5.25% tax bracket. Married Filing Separately income tax brackets are one half that of the Married Filing Jointly income tax brackets in the state of Kansas.
