What Is Connecticut Form CT-1040?

Connecticut Form CT-1040 is used by full-year residents to file their state income tax return. The purpose of Form CT-1040 is to determine your tax liability for the state of Connecticut. Nonresident and part-year resident filers will complete Connecticut Form CT-1040NR/PY instead.

Who Must File Connecticut Form CT-1040?

You must file a Connecticut tax return if your gross income exceeds the minimum specified for your filing status. For tax year 2024, Single residents must file if their gross income exceeds $15,000. Married residents filing jointly must file if their gross income exceeds $24,000.

Gross income means all income before deducting expenses that is reportable to the state of Connecticut. Even if your gross income is below the amount specified for your filing status, you may still have to file a Connecticut tax return. Other filing requirements include but are not limited to when:

  • You had Connecticut income tax withheld.
  • You made Connecticut estimated tax payments.
  • You had a federal alternative minimum tax liability.
  • You are claiming the Connecticut earned income tax credit (CT EITC).

How To Check The Status Of My Connecticut Tax Return?

To check the status of your Connecticut income tax refund online, visit the Connecticut Department of Revenue website and use their Check Status Of Refund service. Connecticut Department of Revenue states on their website that refunds for electronically filed returns generally are issued within 4 business days of the receipt of the return. Paper tax forms mailed in take 10-12 weeks to process. The status of a paper income tax return will not be available until the forms have entered their system.
