Who Must File Maryland Form 502?
You must file a Maryland tax return if you were required to file a federal income tax return. There is also a gross income test for those who were not required to file a federal income tax return. For tax year 2024, Single residents under the age of 65 must file if their gross income is $13,850 or more. Married residents under the age of 65 must file if their gross income is $27,700 or more.
Gross income means all income before deducting expenses that are reportable to the state of Maryland. For example, you may receive a refund for the state tax amount shown on your Maryland W-2. You may also be eligible to claim the Maryland Child Tax Credit, Maryland Earned Income Credit, Poverty Level Credit (PLC), and other state income tax credits.
