Maine Income Tax Rate 2023 - 2024

Maine state income tax rate table for the 2023 - 2024 filing season has three income tax brackets with ME tax rates of 5.8%, 6.75% and 7.15% for Single, Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, and Head of Household statuses. The Maine tax rate is unchanged from last year, however, the income tax brackets increased due to the annual inflation adjustment.

Maine income tax rate and tax brackets shown in the table below are based on income earned between January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023. Outlook for the 2024 Maine income tax rate is to remain unchanged with income tax brackets increasing due to the annual inflation adjustment.

Maine Tax Brackets 2023 - 2024

Looking at the tax rate and tax brackets shown in the tables above for Maine, we can see that Maine collects individual income taxes differently for Single versus Married filing statuses, for example. We can also see the progressive nature of Maine state income tax rates from the lowest ME tax rate bracket of 5.8% to the highest ME tax rate bracket of 7.15%.

For single taxpayers living and working in the state of Maine:

  • Tax rate of 5.8% on the first $24,499 of taxable income.
  • Tax rate of 6.75% on taxable income between $24,500 and $58,049.
  • Tax rate of 7.15% on taxable income over $58,049.

For married taxpayers living and working in the state of Maine:

  • Tax rate of 5.8% on the first $49,049 of taxable income.
  • Tax rate of 6.75% on taxable income between $49,050 and $116,099.
  • Tax rate of 7.15% on taxable income over $116,099.

For the Single, Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, and Head of Household filing statuses, the ME tax rates and the number of tax brackets remain the same. Notice, however, the Maine income tax brackets for Married Filing Jointly increase from $24,500 to $49,050 at 6.75%, and increase from $58,050 to $116,100 at 7.15% the highest tax bracket. Married Filing Separately income tax brackets are one half that of the Married Filing Jointly income tax brackets in the state of Maine.
