Form 1040 Schedules 4, 5, and 6 Obsolete For 2020 Tax Prep Season
As we update the Income Tax Pro website, we occasionally come across an Obsolete
form, instructions, or publication alert issued by the IRS.
This year we noticed several of these alerts relating to the upcoming 2020 tax prep season.
These alerts generally appear on Draft
income tax forms which are accessed by software companies and income tax professionals.
The general public will more likely find reference to an obsolete form in the What's New
section of the Form 1040 instructions booklet.
List Of Obsolete IRS Forms, Tax Year 2019
- Schedule 4 - Other Taxes
- Schedule 5 - Other Payments and Refundable Credits
- Schedule 6 - Foreign Address and Third Party Designee
- Schedule C-EZ - Net Profit from Business
- Form 2555-EZ - Foreign Earned Income
- Form 8965 - Health Coverage Exemptions
A major restructuring of Form 1040 took place last year, which included the addition of six new schedules titled Schedules 1 through 6. At the same time, Form 1040 had been redesigned to make Form 1040-A and Form 1040-EZ obsolete. The approach transformed Form 1040 into something that all federal taxpayers could use.
This year, Schedule 4, Schedule 5, and Schedule 6 have merged into either Schedule 2, Schedule 3, or Form 1040. Schedule C-EZ and Form 2555-EZ appear to be following the trend of removing Easy (EZ) forms altogether. While Form 8965 became obsolete due to the elimination of the shared responsibility payment law.
Schedule 1, Schedule 2, and Schedule 3 are still in use. You may notice some changes on the surviving schedules as they have merged with those made obsolete.
