IRS E-File Now Open
IRS Federal 2014 income tax filing season kicks into gear today as the IRS begins to accept E-File. IRS E-File is the electronic submission of your federal income tax forms. When you prepare your income taxes at a tax preparation store or with tax software (online or on your computer), your forms are submitted to the IRS by E-File. The alternative to E-File is of course to print federal income tax forms and mail them to the IRS.
To get your IRS income tax refund as fast as possible, E-File and choose the direct deposit option. You may get your refund in as few as 10 days, however, the IRS now quotes a more conservative "9 out of 10 refunds within 21 days" on their website.
Planning to mail in your IRS income tax refund and receive an IRS refund check by mail? That could take up to 6 weeks! For sure it is much faster to E-File and choose the direct deposit option. If you do not have a bank account that's ok. You can still E-File and request a check to be mailed which is still faster than sending in paper forms.
